How to get up close and personal with street portraiture.

One of my favorite photographers is LJ on Flickr. His street portraits are intimate and beautiful and when I grow up I want to shoot like him. I recently asked his advice on how he gets so close to homeless people and this was his answer…

“Just talk the talk. Sure, you may have a big arse camera in your hand but i never approach anybody and ask “can i take your picture”. I just stop and say something..anything. That strikes up the conversation and then if you think its going well enough you just ask if they mind…..but carry on talking whilst you shoot. Put the camera on multiple frame mode and shoot as many frames as you can. You will get one winner.” LJ.

Thanks LJ you are an inspiration.
